Perfect Prep EQ™ - The Science
It has been known for many years that a variety of nutritional
components, especially vitamins, minerals and amino acids have a direct
effect on the cardio-vascular and nervous system of mammals.
Even normally quiet horses become excitable in stressful situations.
Stress quickly uses up the horse’s normally sufficient levels of
essential minerals, vitamins and amino acids, with the result that
adrenalin, blood sugar and heart rate levels become uncontrolled and the
horse becomes excitable. Horsemen have long controlled the energy level
and nervous state of their mounts by adjusting the levels of these
nutritional components.
Non-chemical, totally nutritional management of horses under stress
offers several benefits over using herbal or chemical (drug) approaches.
The nutritional approach is a very safe means of managing stress and
excitability in horses. Effects are transient and reasonably
dependable. Finally, since these components are found in every
living mammal, it allows confidence that the nutritional components used
are not detectable as a foreign substance by the laboratory tests run by
the governing bodies of high level equine events.
PERFECT PREP EQ PRODUCTS use the following ingredients. All
components are the highest quality and consistency. Formulas are
designed to be stable, efficiently absorbed and effective. All
manufacturing is under NASC guidelines.
THE FORMULAS.
The effectiveness of Perfect Prep EQ formulas is a result of the
combination of quality ingredients and a proprietary compound.
Like with your grandma’s special cookies, the end result is as much HOW
the ingredients are blended and the proportions used, as what the
ingredients themselves are.
THE INGREDIENTS.
MAGNESIUM:
Magnesium is an essential mineral in the horse that acts to stabilize
the fright-flight reflex. It works on the cellular level in
helping to allow insulin to store glucose and minimize the rapid changes
in blood sugar that causes excitability.
Magnesium in high levels is also effective at slowing the heart rate and
relaxing muscles.
Magnesium and Calcium, both essential minerals in the horse, are
chemically very similar but have opposite effects at the cellular level:
Calcium is primarily present outside the cell wall while magnesium is
abundant inside the cell. Magnesium calms the nervous and
cardio-vascular system; calcium excites nerves. Calcium is
required for muscle contraction; magnesium causes muscle relaxation.
In the performance equine, the additional stress created by training and
performance causes an instant deficit in magnesium, and an over
abundance of calcium, resulting in excitability, muscle cramps and
stress overload.
Different forms of magnesium are absorbed in different parts of the
digestive system. One of the benefits of the PERFECT PREP EQ
formula is that the appropriate magnesium compound is used in our
formulas to produce optimum effect and quickly correct the imbalances in
the calcium-magnesium ratio.
TAURINE:
Taurine is a sulfonic acid. It is synthesized in the liver from
Methionine and Cystine.
As a neuromodulator Taurine is effective at regulating nervous system
activity, preventing brain over activity and maintaining cell membrane
stability. It is used in human therapies to help reduce nervousness and
hyperactivity.
Taurine is also important in Potassium management in muscle cells,
especially the heart, helping to maintain steady heart rates.
Quick changes in blood sugar exacerbate excitability in horses. Taurine
is used in PERFECT PREP EQ formulas to stabilize blood sugar levels by
potentiating insulin.
INOSITOL:
Inositol is a B vitamin that is required for proper formation of cell
membranes. It is effective in PERFECT PREP EQ formulas as a
stabilizing element in the transmission of nerve impulses.
Inositol provides an overall calming effect on the nervous system.
THIAMINE:
Thiamine is an essential B vitamin that is key in the digestion of
polysaccharides. Large doses of thiamine are known to provide a
high level of calming effect on the horse. PERFECT PREP EQ products use
effective levels of the most absorbable thiamine compounds to calm the
nervous system and relax the horse.
L TRYPTOPHAN:
L Tryptophane, the key ingredient in
Perfect Prep EQ EXTREME, is
an essential amino acid that is known to be converted in the body to
serotonin, the chemical that produces a feeling of well being in the
mammal and induces sleep or drowsiness. It has more quieting
effect if used on an empty stomach, and with daily use Tryptophane
becomes less effective as a quieting agent as the horse gradually
adjusts to the over abundance.
THE APPLICATION.
Horses are all individuals, and they respond to the same therapy in
different ways.
When you begin establishing effective levels of our formulas for
individual horses, start with maximum recommended doses, and then back
down to find the lowest level that will produce the desired effect.
The compounds are designed to be used independently or together, so feel
confident that you may safely use them as needed.
Remember that the effects from a nutritional formula differ from an
herbal or chemical product, and horses absorb and metabolize the various
nutritional elements at different rates.
